The Perl Advent Calendar 2026 CFP Is Open
It’s that time of year again. This is checks notes season 27 of The Perl Advent Calendar and the Call for Papers is open. The schedule is a bit later this year because I’ve decided to compress the timeline. Opening the call in the summer seems to do little for drumming up articles and the number of submissions in the month of September is traditionally quite low, so this year I’m asking for article ideas to be submitted by Oct 15 and then completed by end of (my) day on Nov 1. The last couple of Christmas seasons I found myself wrangling articles until quite late into the month of December and that takes some of the fun out of it because it’s, you know, the holiday season.

#LLM policy
One other item of note is our LLM policy. Please note:
We like our articles to reflect the author’s own unique voice. If you’d like to lean on an LLM to help with things like generating an image, whipping up some sample code, proofreading your article, etc, please do so, but please write the prose yourself. We want to hear your voice. Let your gift be something you put your heart into, rather than your tokens.
In practice this has not yet been a problem. I did have someone offer last year to provide an LLM-generated article if we were short on content, but in all honesty, in that case I would rather be short on content. There have been some years where the calendar produced fewer than 24 articles, and that’s ok. Let’s continue to keep this a labour of love. There’s a whole discussion around LLM-generated prose that could be had, but let’s just keep it simple and assume that it’s essentially a non-issue for this project. 🤞
